Phir Charagh-E-Lala Se Roshan Huway Koh-O-Daman
Mujh Ko Phir Naghmon Pe Uksane Laga Murg-E-Chaman

Hill and vale once more under the poppys lamps are bright,
In my heart the nightingale has set new songs alight;

Phool Hain Sehra Mein Ya Pariyan Qitar Andar Qitar
Ude Ude, Neele Neele, Peele Peele Payrhan

Violet, violet, azure, azure, golden, golden, mantles
Flowers, or fairies of the desert, rank on rank in sight?

Barg-E-Gul Par Rakh Gyi Shabnam Ka Moti Bad-E-Subah
Aur Chamkati Hai Iss Moti Ko Sooraj Ki Kiran

On the rosy-spray dawns soft breeze has left a pearl of dew,
Now the sunbeam turns this gem a yet more glittering white.

Husn-E-Beparwa Ko Apni Be-Naqabi Ke Liye
Hun Agar Shehron Se Bann Payare To Shehar Ache K Bann

Town or woodland, which is sweeter, if for her unveiling
Careless beauty love towns less than where green woods invite?

Apne Mann Mein Doob Kar Pa Ja Suragh-E-Zindagi
Tu Agar Mera Nahin Banta Na Bann, Apna To Bann

Delve into your soul and there seek our lifes buried tracks;
Will you not be mine? then be not mine, be your own right!

Mann Ki Duniya! Mann Ki Dunya Souz-O-Masti, Jazab-O-Shauq
Tann Ki Dunya! Tann Ki Dunya Sood-O-Soda, Maker-O-Fann

World of soulthe world of fire and ecstasy and longing:
World of sensethe world of gain that fraud and cunning blight;

Mann Ki Doulat Hath Ati Hai To Phir Jati Nahin
Tann Ki Doulat Chaon Hai, Ata Hai Dhan Jata Hai Dhan

Treasure of the soul once won is never lost again:
Treasure gold, a shadowwealth soon comes and soon takes flight.

Mann Ki Duniya Mein Na Paya Mein Ne Afrangi Ka Raaj
Man Ki Duniya Mein Na Dekhe, Mein Ne Sheikh-O-Barhaman

In the spirits world I have not seen a white mans Raj,
In that world I have not seen Hindu and Muslim fight.

Pani Pani Kar Gyi Mujh Ko Qalandar Ki Ye Baat
Tu Jhuka Jab Ghair Ke Agay, Na Mann Tera Na Tann

Shame and shame that hermits saying pouted on meyou forfeit
Body and soul alike if once you cringe to anothers might!

Amir Khusro- Sakal Bun Phool Rahi Sarson

This Qalam is a classical hits and all-time favorite. The Purbi lyrics and the raag bahar melody are both very inspirational and its contains many words in Urdu as well. A scene of exciting preparation taking place near a blooming yellow mustard field one winter's day is expertly drawn in just a few lines. The music builds up in-step with the poetry and reaches its crescendo at the exact moment when the devotees arrive at the dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin holding colorful bouquets in hand. But one particular devotee cannot be there to make an offering and one finds that despite all the excitement of the music and the scenery the poem is but a poet's confession of a broken promise long overdue. Sakal bun (or Saghan bhun) phool rahi sarson, Sakal bun phool rahi..... Umbva phutay, tesu phulay, koyal bolay daar daar, Aur gori karat singaar, Malaniyan gadhwa lay aayin karson, Sakal bun phool rahi..... Tarah tarah kay phool lagaaye, Lay gadhwa haathan mein aaye. Nijamudin kay darwazay...

Mard-e-Musalman

Har Lehza Hai Moomin Ki Nayee Shaan Nayee Aaan; Guftar Mein Kirdaar Mein Allah Ki Burhaan. Every Moment of a True Believer is a new grandeur; By words and deeds he gives a proof Of Mighty God, His reach and power Qahhari-o-Ghaffari-o-Quddusi-o-Jabrood; Yeh Chaar Anasir Ho Tho Banta Hai Musalmaan. Rout the foes, Grant them Reprieve, Do pious deeds & show great might; Are the four characteristics that make A Perfect Muslim Hamsaaya-e-Jibreel-e-Ameen Banda-e-Khaki; Hai Iska Nasheman Na Bukhaara Na Badakhshaan. This clay-born man has kinship close to Gabriel the trusted; His dwelling place is neve r a land or clime. Ye Raaz Kisiko Nahin Maalum Ke Moomin! Qari Nazar Aata Hai; Haqeekat Mein Hai Qur'an. The Believer's Secret has not been known by anyone. He looks like a Reciter; But in fact he himself is the Qur'an. Qudrat Ke Maqasid Ka Ayyar, Iske Iraade; Duniya Mein Bhi Mizaan, Qayamat Mein Bhi Mizaan. The Nature's aims and ends are his intentions; He keeps Balance in th...
