Tarana-e-Milli

Cheen-o-Arab Hamaara, Hindusitaan Hamaaraa
Muslim Hain Ham, Watan Hai Saaraa Jahaan Hamaaraa

Central Asia and Arabia are ours, Hindustan is ours
Since we are Muslims, the whole world is our homeland

Tauheed Ki Amaanat Seenon Mein Hai Hamaare
Aasaan Naheen Mitaanaa Naam-o-Nishaan Hamaaraa

The trust of Oneness (Monotheism) is deep in our hearts
It is not easy to erase our identity [name and sign]

Duniya Ke But-kadon Mein Pehlaa Wo Ghar Khudaa Ka
Ham Uske Paasbaan Hain, Wo Paasbaan Hamaaraa

Among the world's worship places the first is that house of the Lord
We are its door-guards, it is our door-guard

Taighon Ke Saaye Mein Ham, Pal Kar Javaan Huwe Hain
Khanjar Hilaal Ka Hai Qaumi Nishaan Hamaaraa

We were raised, and have become youths, in the shadow of swords
The scimitar of the crescent moon is our 'group-related' sign

Maghrib Ki Vaadiyon Mein Goonji Azaan Hamaari
Thamtaa Nah Thaa Kisi Se Sail-e-Ravaan Hamaaraa

In the valleys of the west our call to prayer echoed
Our moving flood did not stop on account of anyone

Baa:til Se Dabne Waale Ay Aasmaan Naheen Ham
Sau Baar Kar Chukaa Hai Tu Imtihaan Hamaaraa

We are not, oh sky, ones to be oppressed by falsehood
A hundred times you've already tested us

Ay Gulsitaan-e-Andlus! Woh Din Hain Yaad Tujh Ko
Tha Teri Daaliyon Mein Jab Aashiyaan Hamaaraa

Oh garden of Andalusia! you remember those days
When our nest was in your branches

Ay Mauj-e-Dajlah! Tu Bhi Pahchaanti Hai Hamko
Ab Tak Hai Tera Darya Afsaanah-Khwaan Hamaaraa

Wh wave of the Tigris! you too recognize us
Till now your river is our story-teller

Ay Arz-e-Paak! Teri Harmat Pah Kat Mare Hain
Hai Khoon Tiri Ragon Mein Ab Tak Ravaan Hamaaraa

Oh pure land! for your sacredness we have been cut down and have died
Till now our blood moves in your veins

Saalaar-e-Kaaravaan Hai Miir-e-Hijaaz Apnaa
Us Naam Se Hai Baaqii Aaraam-e-Jaan Hamaaraa

Our leader of the caravan is the Chief of the Hijaz
Through that name the peace of our spirit lives on

Iqbaal Kaa Taraanah Baang-e-Daraa Hai Goyaa
Hotaa Hai Jaadah-Pemaa Phir Kaaravaan Hamaaraa

Iqbal's song is, {'so to speak' / 'speaking'} , the call of a bell
Again our caravan is on the road

Amir Khusro- Sakal Bun Phool Rahi Sarson

This Qalam is a classical hits and all-time favorite. The Purbi lyrics and the raag bahar melody are both very inspirational and its contains many words in Urdu as well. A scene of exciting preparation taking place near a blooming yellow mustard field one winter's day is expertly drawn in just a few lines. The music builds up in-step with the poetry and reaches its crescendo at the exact moment when the devotees arrive at the dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin holding colorful bouquets in hand. But one particular devotee cannot be there to make an offering and one finds that despite all the excitement of the music and the scenery the poem is but a poet's confession of a broken promise long overdue. Sakal bun (or Saghan bhun) phool rahi sarson, Sakal bun phool rahi..... Umbva phutay, tesu phulay, koyal bolay daar daar, Aur gori karat singaar, Malaniyan gadhwa lay aayin karson, Sakal bun phool rahi..... Tarah tarah kay phool lagaaye, Lay gadhwa haathan mein aaye. Nijamudin kay darwazay...
