Tarana-e-Hindi (Saare Jahaan Se Achcha)

Saare Jahaan Se Achchaa Hindusitaan Hamaaraa
Ham Bulbulein Hain Uski Wo Gulsitaan Hamaaraa

Better than the whole world, is our Hindustan (India)
We are its nightingales, it is our garden

Gurbat Mein Hon Agar Ham, Rehtaa Hai Dil Vatan Mein
Samjho Waheen Hamein Bhi Dil Ho Jahaan Hamaaraa

If we would be in 'an alien place', the heart remains in the homeland
Consider us too to be right there, where our heart would be

Parbat Woh Sab Se Unchaa, Hamsaayah Aasmaan Kaa
Woh Santari Hamaaraa, Woh Paasbaan Hamaaraa

That tallest mountain, stands as guard in the sky
That is our sentry, that is our door-guard

Godi Mein Khelti Hain Uski Hazaaron Nadiyaan
Gulshan Hai Jinke Dam Se Rashk-e-Janaan Hamaaraa

In her (India's) lap play all her thousands of rivers
Thanks to which our garden is the envy of Paradise

Aye Aab-Ruud-e-Gangaa! Woh Din Hain Yaad Tujhko?
Utraa Tire Kinaare Jab Kaaravaan Hamaaraa

Oh river [water-flowing] Ganges! do you remember those days?
When our caravan descended on your bank

Mazhab Nahin Sikhaataa Aapas Mein Bair Rakhnaa
Hindi Hain Ham, Watan Hai Hindusitaan Hamaaraa

Religion does not teach [us] to keep enmity with each other
We are Indian, our homeland is Hindustan

Yunaan-o-Misr-o-Rooma Sab Mit Gaye Jahaan Se
Ab Tak Magar Hai Baaqi Naam-o-Nishaan Hamaaraa

Greece and Egypt and Byzantium all got erased from the world
But until now our identity lives on

Kuchh Baat Hai Kih Hasti Mit'ti Nahin Hamaarii
Sadiyon Rahaa Hai Dushman Daur-e-Zamaan Hamaaraa

There's something, that our existence does not become erased
For centuries the cycle of time has remained our enemy

"Iqbaal" Koi Mahram Apnaa Nahin Jahaan Mein
Maluum Kyaa Kisi Ko Dard-e-nihaan Hamaaraa!

Iqbal, there is no intimate friend of ours in the world
What can anyone know of our hidden pain?

Amir Khusro- Sakal Bun Phool Rahi Sarson

This Qalam is a classical hits and all-time favorite. The Purbi lyrics and the raag bahar melody are both very inspirational and its contains many words in Urdu as well. A scene of exciting preparation taking place near a blooming yellow mustard field one winter's day is expertly drawn in just a few lines. The music builds up in-step with the poetry and reaches its crescendo at the exact moment when the devotees arrive at the dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin holding colorful bouquets in hand. But one particular devotee cannot be there to make an offering and one finds that despite all the excitement of the music and the scenery the poem is but a poet's confession of a broken promise long overdue. Sakal bun (or Saghan bhun) phool rahi sarson, Sakal bun phool rahi..... Umbva phutay, tesu phulay, koyal bolay daar daar, Aur gori karat singaar, Malaniyan gadhwa lay aayin karson, Sakal bun phool rahi..... Tarah tarah kay phool lagaaye, Lay gadhwa haathan mein aaye. Nijamudin kay darwazay...

Mard-e-Musalman

Har Lehza Hai Moomin Ki Nayee Shaan Nayee Aaan; Guftar Mein Kirdaar Mein Allah Ki Burhaan. Every Moment of a True Believer is a new grandeur; By words and deeds he gives a proof Of Mighty God, His reach and power Qahhari-o-Ghaffari-o-Quddusi-o-Jabrood; Yeh Chaar Anasir Ho Tho Banta Hai Musalmaan. Rout the foes, Grant them Reprieve, Do pious deeds & show great might; Are the four characteristics that make A Perfect Muslim Hamsaaya-e-Jibreel-e-Ameen Banda-e-Khaki; Hai Iska Nasheman Na Bukhaara Na Badakhshaan. This clay-born man has kinship close to Gabriel the trusted; His dwelling place is neve r a land or clime. Ye Raaz Kisiko Nahin Maalum Ke Moomin! Qari Nazar Aata Hai; Haqeekat Mein Hai Qur'an. The Believer's Secret has not been known by anyone. He looks like a Reciter; But in fact he himself is the Qur'an. Qudrat Ke Maqasid Ka Ayyar, Iske Iraade; Duniya Mein Bhi Mizaan, Qayamat Mein Bhi Mizaan. The Nature's aims and ends are his intentions; He keeps Balance in th...
